Future Veterinarians Get Hands-On with Poultry Science at Texas A&M
On December 18, 2025, the Texas A&M AgriLife Poultry Science Extension Unit and the Department of Poultry Science welcomed students to campus while hosting the Texas A&M AgriLife Veterinary Science Certificate Program for a Food Animal Veterinary Medicine Camp, focused on poultry.

The one-day camp brought together ten high school students from across Texas and Louisiana for an immersive, hands-on learning experience designed to expand their knowledge of poultry science and veterinary medicine. Throughout the day, students participated in interactive activities including egg candling, embryology, and necropsy, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at poultry production, animal health, and diagnostic practices. Students also explored the history of the poultry industry, gaining perspective on how science, innovation, and animal care have shaped modern food production.
The Veterinary Science Certificate Program provides high school students with foundational training to become veterinary assistants, while also offering early exposure to career pathways in veterinary medicine and animal science. By partnering with Poultry Science faculty and Extension professionals, the program allows students to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications, helping them envision future careers in food animal medicine and agriculture.
