Gregory Archer, Ph.D., and Morgan Farnell Ph.D. received promotions to Professor at the beginning of the fall semester. Archer and Farnell are internationally recognized for their research and involvement in poultry industry outreach.

Gregory Archer, Ph.D. has been a faculty member and Poultry Extension Specialist in the Texas A&M Department of Poultry Science since 2012. His area of focus is Poultry Management, Stress Physiology, Health, Behavior, and Welfare.

Dr. Archer has established numerous extension programs that combine his knowledge based on his research and outreach efforts with poultry industry partners. He is the Chair of the Texas Commercial Egg Clinic, Texas Broiler Symposium, and the Texas Market Poultry Workshop. Additionally, he serves as superintendent for the 4-H Roundup, State Fair, and Austin Rodeo market poultry shows. He has also served on several industry advisory committees and as an editor and reviewer on several major scientific journals.

Dr. Archer has 117 published works, including peer-reviewed articles, M.S. and Ph.D. papers, books, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agency publications.

In 2015, he was awarded the Poultry Science Association Early Achievement Award for Extension; in 2021, he was awarded the Poultry Science Maple Leaf Farms Duck Research Award.

Currently, Dr. Archer is the instructor for POSC 333: Instincts and Behaviors and POSC 454/654: Animal Welfare, however, he has led several other undergraduate and graduate-level courses during his tenure. His goal as a classroom and laboratory teacher is to provide his students with experiences that will promote the development of their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Greg has mentored over 50 graduate students at Texas A&M, serving as Chair, Co-Chair, or committee member. Many of these students have earned prestigious awards for their work.

Morgan Farnell, Ph.D. began his college teaching career in 2005 as an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist with the Texas A&M Department of Poultry Science. He briefly taught at Mississippi State from 2013-2016 but returned to Aggieland and resumed his previous role. He has served as a Graduate Faculty Advisor and as the Associate Department Head for Graduate Programs, and in 2023 he was appointed to Associate Department Head for Extension. Morgan specializes in Avian Microbiology and Immunology.

Dr. Farnell has published 131 articles during his career including peer-reviewed publications, proceeding papers, M.S. and Ph.D. papers, chapters in books, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agency papers. His research and profound knowledge of poultry disease management has led him to travel the world presenting at professional events.

In 2009, he was awarded the Early Achievement Award in Poultry Extension, and in 2012 he received the Phibro Extension Award. There are both international awards presented by the Poultry Science Association for outstanding service.

Additionally, Morgan has served on numerous Texas A&M and industry advisory committees including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). He is currently involved with the Poultry Science Association and is a section editor for British Poultry Science, an international scientific journal.
