On May 15, 2025, the Texas A&M AgriLife Poultry Science Extension Unit hosted the annual Texas Commercial Egg Clinic at the Thomas G. Hildebrand, DVM ’56 Equine Complex in College Station, Texas. The event drew commercial egg producers, allied industry partners, and regulatory professionals from across the state for a full day of education, collaboration, and networking.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts, gain insights into regulatory developments, and explore innovations aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability within the egg production sector.

The event kicked off at 8:00 a.m. with a Texas Allied Poultry Association (TAPA) meeting, followed by general session programming in the auditorium. The day’s agenda featured a wide range of relevant topics designed to address current trends, challenges, and innovations in egg production.

Highlights from the General Session included:

Water Quality in Production Systems – Rodney Mayerhoff of CLO2 Services covered best practices for maintaining clean water systems in poultry operations.

U.S. Egg Markets and Costs Update – Maro Ibarburu-Blanc provided an overview of current market conditions and cost drivers influencing the egg industry.

Pullet Lighting Strategies – Andrew Flemming of Hato Lighting discussed the impact of lighting programs on flock development and productivity.

Extending the Productive Life of Laying Hens – Juliana Machado of Hendrix explored strategies for improving eggshell quality to support hen longevity.

Poultry Health and Disease Management – Dr. Kay Russo of RSM Consulting delivered a focused discussion on current disease trends and prevention strategies.

UEP Industry Update – Paul Montgomery, Director of Communications at United Egg Producers, provided updates on national initiatives and industry priorities.

Artificial Intelligence and Smart AgricultureZiteng Xu, Ph.D. of Texas A&M Department of Poultry science presented emerging technologies and their applications in commercial egg production.

Coordinated Biosecurity Efforts During Productions and at Cleanout - Scott McKenzie of Enviro Tech presented on the importance of proper biosecurity practices to mitigate disease outbreaks.

Texas Animal Health Commission Update – Thomas Lansford shared agency updates and ongoing efforts to protect flock health in Texas.
