Flockback Classic Kicks Off 2026 Poultry Judging Season
The Department of Poultry Science proudly introduced a new poultry judging contest this spring with the launch of the Flockback Classic. The inaugural event was held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Texas A&M Poultry Science Research, Teaching, and Extension Facility in College Station.

Despite chilly winter temperatures, more than 100 Texas FFA and 4-H youth from across the state braved the cold to take part in the first-ever Flockback Classic, officially kicking off the 2026 poultry judging season. Participants demonstrated their knowledge and skills in poultry evaluation while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a competitive, collegiate setting.
“We have been looking for an opportunity to introduce a new judging event earlier in the season, and this contest was designed to replace the fall Aggiefest clinic we have traditionally hosted,” said Brett Meisinger, Texas A&M Collegiate Poultry Judging Coach. “With many 4-H and FFA teams focused on other activities in the fall, most don’t begin preparing for the judging season until winter or early spring. The Flockback Classic gives competitors a chance to dust off their clipboards and sharpen their skills as they head into the upcoming season.”
The event marked an exciting new addition to the Department’s long-standing commitment to youth education, leadership development, and industry preparation, setting a strong foundation for the Flockback Classic to become a staple contest for years to come.
