Poultry science student Carla Araguz ’28 is one of a select group of students at Texas A&M to be selected as a Hagan Scholar through the Hagan Scholarship Foundation. This highly competitive national program is designed to help high-achieving, goal-driven students graduate from college debt-free, while equipping them with real-world skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

As part of the program, Hagan Scholars commit to a set of responsibilities that include maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA each semester, completing 240 hours of work prior to the fall semester, and joining a campus organization. In return, scholars gain access to financial assistance for study abroad opportunities, specialized workshops, and even a Schwab brokerage account, resources provided at no cost to the student.

Over the summer, Carla attended the 2nd-Year Hagan Scholar Workshop in Omaha, Nebraska, joining more than 500 other scholars from across the country. The workshop focused on preparing students for life after undergrad, with sessions on investing in stocks, studying abroad, finding internships, and career readiness.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to apply what I learned by managing a real investment portfolio,” Carla shared. “This is an invaluable experience made possible by the generosity of Mr. Dan Hagan, founder of the program.”

Reflecting on her experience so far, Carla shared her gratitude for the life-changing opportunities the Hagan Scholarship provides, as well as her pride in representing Texas A&M University among such a driven and inspiring group of peers. “I am incredibly grateful to Mr. Hagan for creating these life-changing opportunities. It was such an honor to proudly represent Texas A&M University while connecting with so many driven and inspiring scholars.”
