Undergraduate Student Admissions
Incoming Freshman Admissions
A freshman applicant is a current high school student (with or without college credit) or a high school graduate with no college credit earned after high school graduation. Interested students must submit their application, along with required materials, through ApplyTexas or CommonApp. Visit admissions.tamu.edu/apply/freshman for more admissions information.

Transfer Student Admissions

Application Deadlines

Summer/Fall: January 1 – May 1
Prospective transfer students must meet the following criteria to be considered for transfer admission into the Poultry Science Department:
Required
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Must have completed 24 transferable credit hours
Recommended
- Completed coursework:
- CHEM 119 (TCCN 1411 or 1311/1111)
- BIOL 111 (TCCN 1406)
- MATH 140 (TCCN 1324)
- MATH 142 (TCCN 1325)
- Attend a meeting with a Poultry Science Advisor
Essay Requirement
As a transfer applicant, you are required to complete Essay A as part of the application. Please address the following questions in your essay:
- Why do you want a poultry sciences degree?
- How will a poultry science degree help you meet your career goals?
Additional Information
- Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and College Algebra are transferable courses, but will not satisfy the mathematics requirements for this degree plan
- Students may have to complete College Algebra (MATH 1314) before taking MATH 1324 or MATH 1325
- Fall coursework will not be considered for spring applicants. Applicants to the spring term should have the recommended coursework and required GPA and credit hours completed by the end of the Summer II semester before applying
Change of Major Admissions
Current Texas A&M University students looking to transfer into our department through a change of major, must make a request to the major you want to transfer into by submitting a change of major request form. It is essential to review the change of major requirements before submitting a change of major request. Those requirements can be found on the Change of Major form specific to your degree. You can find application deadlines and Change of Major Forms for our College on the Texas A&M Undergraduate Studies website.
Prospective change of major students must meet the following requirements to be considered for admission into the Poultry Science Department:
- No more than 75 completed hours
- Have completed CHEM 101/111 or BIOL 111 (both are preferred)
- Preferred completion of MATH 141 and 142
- Attend a change of major meeting with Poultry Science Advisor

Graduate Student Admissions
Interested graduate students must submit their application, along with required materials through the Texas A&M University GraduateCAS. A full list of program requirements can be found on each degree program page. We also encourage you to reach out to the program coordinators for more information.
International Students
Official TOEFL scores are required for international applicants. Official scores must be sent by ETS directly to Texas A&M University using the school code: 6003. Visit the Graduate and Professional School website for a list of requirements, exemptions and other useful information regarding the TOEFL/IELTS Exams.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Students at Texas A&M get a world-class education at a reasonable cost. We award over $150,000 in scholarships annually to undergraduate students in the Department of Poultry Science and support graduate students through assistantships and fellowships, travel and research grants. This funding is made possible by donors and supporters of the department, including former students, family and friends, former faculty, and industry sponsors.
